Johann's Dental Appointment

Johann needed a re-fill for his two front teeth. His four front teeth were somehow not healthily formed during his foetal development. I don't remember a thing, but when two different dentists asked if I was sick during my pregnancy, my husband confirmed it and said I had taken antibiotics.

Had we not brought him to the dentist, he would be having tooth decay by now. Fortunately, his father took notice of the spreading white and yellow patches (which soon turned into holes) on his front teeth and insisted that we consult the dentist, or Johann's smile wouldn't be this charming!

He did excellent! He cooperated with the dentist, winning praises from her the whole time! He never shed a tear!

Today's dental appointment is Johann's second. He wailed non-stop in his first appointment. He was lying on me while my husband became an overnight dental apprentice. Johann didn't allow Dr Wu to touch him, so my husband worked under her close supervision to scrap off the cavities and doing the fillings. For the final step, she had to take over from him, with me hand-strapping him down firmly and my husband securing his head to overcome his constant struggles. When it was over, we all looked like we came out from a workout session.

So you can imagine how proud and impressed we felt at his appointment today!! We had mentally prepared him for weeks before today. Everyday, we told him he must cooperate and mustn't cry. All he has to do is to open his mouth big and wide. There will be no pain, just slight discomfort.

We arrived at the medical centre worried that our mental preparation was not enough. We left the centre satisfied and relieved that the preparation was indeed fundamental and did what it did.
