10 Random Things About Enzian

1.       He is the bigger twin, one minute older, a little taller, always heavier of the two.  He is easily identifiable by his naturally coarse voice.

2.       Very good in mathematics.  Brilliant in counting money.  Makes the perfect cashier.

3.       Loves doing nothing after any activity.  That means: not cleaning up after playing, not brushing his teeth after dinner, not wearing his clothes after shower.  In another word: lazy.

4.       His first name is Rene.  But he is better known to everyone by his middle name, Enzian, a blue mountain flower indigenous to the alps of Bavaria (where Christophe comes from) and Austria.  Well, I wanted to name my daughter (which I never had, unfortunately) Edelweiss, since I can’t name my son Edelweiss, I needed an alternative.  So Christophe suggested “Enzian”, the male version of a mountain flower.

5.       Has a gift in the kitchen.  Needs little to no instructions on how to use a fruit peeler or how to slice olives.  Knows when the pasta is al dente by just looking at it.  Makes splendid scrambled eggs.  Capable of making a full breakfast for the family independently.

6.       Creative problem solver.  Looks at things out of the box.  His made-up stories always crack his brothers up.

7.       Lost his third tooth just one day after his 8th birthday.  The fourth one slightly over two weeks later.  His class teacher said, “It’s about time.”  He is the last one in his class to have lost his front tooth so late.

8.       Has money luck.  If we made a record, he could have easily found up to RM50 from all the places that we set foot on.

9.       Doesn’t enjoy certain tidbits his brothers love, for instance, Tam Tam, Twistees and prawn crackers.  But can finish 6 slices of a large pizza.

10.   He will always say, “Mama, wo ai ni (I love you)!” each and every time he talks to my mother on the phone, or if he is with her, gives her a big hug with his accented Mandarin.
