Heartache vs pride

How would you, as a parent, feel when your son blurted out, crying uncontrollably at dinner because some unkind peers in school said repeatedly to him demeaning but untrue things about his father?

Heartache.

How would you, as a parent, feel, when you asked your son what his reaction was to those hurtful words and his reply was, "I felt hurt but I cannot understand why they said these. I just walked away."

Proud. Because we have raised our son well enough not to lower himself down to their level and fight back with these poor kids that most probably don't get the love and attention they deserve from their parents, and as a result say things to others that are shallow and totally groundless. Fighting back is useless in this case. He's done the right thing to talk to an adult instead.

We'll see what the teachers of these kids say and do. Yes, he'll bring this matter up to their teachers. That's his next step to find an end to this unnecessary malicious attack.
