Sunday. As the name suggests, it is supposed to be sunny. Though not always true, it did keep up to its name last Sunday. In Germany, the people keep a very close watch on the weather forecast. It helps them to plan the week's activities and in a way, it pre-determines when you should be out and about and when you should stay home to clean the house!
So based on the weather forecast, Christophe and I were secretly planning a day trip surprise for the boys. We discussed if we should buy tickets that entitle us to visit Legoland the entire year, we bought food from the supermarket to bring along on that day, I did all the housework the day before the visit, Christophe attempted to complete his work tasks set out for that week, we prepared the kids for bed early, we kept our lips sealed on the surprise.
Sunday morning, after loading the car with food, drinks, extra set of clothes, and the boys, we still kept mum about where we were going. It drove them crazy! After close to an hour's ride, someone saw the directional sign to Legoland. The car was suddenly bustling with lots of chatters and excitement. But we still said nothing, only trying hard to keep our faces straight. We could literally feel them crossing their fingers so hard as we drove in the same direction as the arrows were pointing. When the kids confirmed that it was indeed Legoland that we were taking them to as we approached the huge Legoland Deutschland entrance, they were exhilarated!
It was the first visit for Johann, second for Enzian, Ludwig, Christophe and I, and third for Bart. We took rides, got ourselves educated on how Lego blocks are manufactured, took more rides, were awed by the several miniature monuments and cities built with Lego, took even more rides, and took pictures with Star Wars characters (which happened to be the theme for that weekend).
We spent almost the whole day there, our legs were so tired, but we had a fantastic day!
