Sometimes, the food (usually birthday cakes from classmates) was so yummy he couldn't resist not eating them all and came home with some regrets, telling us so apologetically that he wasn't able to hold himself back from finishing everything.
He continued to bring things home as he entered grades 1, 2 and now 3. Today, the first thing he did when he came home from school was to dig into his pocket, fished out a gummy bear, and gave to Johann, "Johann, this is for you. I saved it for you from a birthday cake." He asked for nothing in return. He was happy enough to see his brother happy.
Undoubtedly, these are some lessons I could learn from Enzian, his generosity and thoughtfulness.
