Day Trips

I wonder if this is normal for the Bavarian schools here, or even the German schools here in general, ever since Enzian and Ludwig started school here, they have already been to four excursions, two organised by their day care and two by the school. The number of day trips that the German school in Malaysia organised is only twice a year!

So far, they have visited the Isar River, flowing at 295km in length, it is the fourth largest river in Bavaria. The week after, they went to the mountains Drachenstich Murnau and afterwards treated to a warm home-cooked meal by the mother of one of the day-care personnels.

These 2 weeks, they are on an adventure trip to the woods Aubinger Lohe and an educational visit to the Oktoberfest Exhibition in the Munich City Museum.

After each excursion, they are tasked to write a composition about the trips, I find this a very useful way to teach children how to relate their experiences in written form, besides putting down the order of events with appropriate conjunctions, they also learn how to put their vocabularies into words, how to describe with verbs and adverbs and inject colours to the story with adjectives. Perhaps, the Singapore parents are already training this long time ago with their children from Primary 1? Oh well, I can only be comforted that my children are now catching up. Better late than never!
