Prima Taste Mee Siam

Mee siam goreng or fried mee siam is a Malay dish more commonly found in Malaysia.
Recently I ordered some Prima Taste products via a friend here.  Mee Siam and Laksa.  It is uncharacteristic of me to cook something from a ready-to-use kit.  Since I don't grow up eating home-cooked mee siam, I am not familiar with the ingredients involved in making it.  Besides, based on online recipes, preparations for the authentic version is time-consuming and it involves many ingredients, which honestly, I don't think I am motivated enough to start from scratch.  That said, I do miss eating a good plate of mee siam, when it is not so spicy.  And it is not likely that I could rely on my Indian/Malay friend here to prepare this at all gatherings, because I want to eat more often than that.  Hence this explains my bulk purchase.

Due to the stingy amount in the bee hoon paste, Babe, my "mother" here, advised that I fry my bee hoon with the bee hoon paste and sambal chilli together, as opposed to the instructions to fry the bee hoon with just the bee hoon paste and then add the sambal chilli when ready to serve.

The mee siam goreng is a result of using 2 packs of sambal chilli and 1 pack of bee hoon paste. I managed to fry 400g of bee hoon with that.  Next time, I will add another 200g of bee hoon because there was enough mixture to stretch.  I got my second pack of sambal chilli from the Laksa kit.  That pack was left unopened because the Laksa paste was already so spicy for me!  What a perfect combination.

The Singaporeans prefer mee siam served in spicy soup.  It was a part of my primary school day meal.
I am very satisfied with both versions, more mee hoon goreng because I can't stop comparing the soup version with the nonya mee siam that is sold a few blocks away from my (real) mother.

It is a good buy, I will repeat my order when the stock is low.
